Or the other hand, embryo demonstrated indirect facilitation of aril growth through the peel and seedcoat.The embryo demonstrated a two-fold effect on peel growth i. e. (1) the presence of embryos in normal-seeded fruits did not stimulate the peel growth when measured on an equal basis of seedcoat fresh weights, (2) fruits with aborted seeds potentially produced large-sized peels but the frequency of occurrence was lower than normal-seeded fruits when investigation was made through natural large population of different-sized fruits.The fact of "hollow fruits" showed that very early abortion of liquid endosperm might lead to formation of extra-small-sized peels and termination of aril growth in its rudimentary state. Large-sized peels resulted from normal development or late abortion of seeds, or in other words, prolonged life-span ot liquid endosperm in essence.The positivt correlation between peel and embryo was a non-causal relationship showing two parrellel phenomena.

All the genes mentioned above are interrelated and affected by different environmental conditions. Multiple synthetic hybridizations are used. It is a reliable means to realize genetic recombinations and the basis for realizing the aim of high-yielding, superior fiber quality and multi-disease resistance. As for the seed-coat resistance to mold no genetic interrelationships among the mold resistance and other diseases are found. The seed-coat resistance to mold is favorable to impove the physiological resistance of seedlings. The close association exists between resistance to Fusarium wilt and resistance to Vertscillium wilt.

多逆抗性育种取决于①控制多种病害抗性的多种基因;②控制单一病害垂直抗性和水平抗性的多种基因;③控制株型和生长的、能逃避两种以上病害的基因;④调控皮棉产量、纤维品质和种子质量性状的基因。所有上述基因是相互联系的,并受环境条件的影响。综合杂交育种法是实现遗传重组的可靠方法,也是实现丰产、优质、多抗目标的基础。种皮抗霉菌的能力和对其它病害的抗性无遗传上的相互关系。而枯萎和黄萎抗性之间存在着一定的联系。种皮对霉菌的抗性,有利于改进幼苗的生理抗性。
