The water level at 3000 m3/s has raised by 2.3m for Aishan Station, 2.4m for Luokou Station and 1.2m for Lijing Station. The tremendous sedimentation in this reach mainly occurred in the period from 1964 to 1973, because of concentrated incoming sediment and no overbank...

    The reach downstream of Aishan is the weak link in the flood prevention system of the Lower Yellow River. In recent ten years, the channel was again in slight silting or equilibrium, The role of "intestine washing" caused by the sediment exchange in overbank flood was still playing in wasaddition to the less incoming water and sediment. It is estimated that the serious sedimentation as in 1964-1973 would not happen in this reach before 2000 A.D., but the siltation at a rate of 10cm/year might appear.The completion of the third levee strengthening and the decrease of channel sedimentation in recent ten years make the flood capacity at Luokou and Lijing Stations increasing about 2000 m3/s or 0.1m lower as compared with the standard capacity of planning of 1974-1983. This provides much beneficial condition to the flood prevention in 10-15 years later on. To fully utilize the beneficial chance and give energetic effort to strengthen the levee through the warping behind instead of the raising of the levee, are provided with an important strategic significance for the long-term use of channel of the Lower Yellow River.
