An approach of reverse CAD for virtual modeling and virtual assembling is presented. The basic concept and principle of CAD reversing design are introduced. By using this approach, under the environment of 3-dimensional mechanical design CAD software, a three-dimensional modeling system and a mechanical assembling system are combined and developed by using Visual Basic (VB).
Based on the platform of 3D mechanical design system—Mechanical Desktop(MDT),this paper studied the way of conducting a motion simulation of mechanism and provided a kind of 3D solid mechanism simulation method which is basing on the MDT platform and taking the objectARX as interface of application program and utilizing an object oriented VC++ language programming.

Based on the analysis of the characteristics of the impeller's shape, and with solidworks 2004, a 3D mechanical design software, as the tool, a 3D entity molding design for the impeller of 200/250 slurry pump was made. The application shows that the use of this software can make eaier the realization of the design of the parts with complex shape, raise the design efficiency, optimise the product structure and save the cost.
The function and features of Solidworks a 3D mechanical design software were introduced. Some examples about plastic bowl and its mould design were used to explain how to use Solidworks to build 3D solid model of plastic product, how to use the product model to get feature parameters before mould design and to derive mould parts from the product mould.
