Comparison between inhibitor and uncoupler for minimizing excess sludge production of an activated sludge process

In order to find the suitable conditions of this process, a mixed flow activated sludge system under low oxygen concentration is investigated, and some key control parameters are examined for nitrogen removal from synthetic wastewater.
      
Compared with 5.5 lg removal for virus T4 in the MBR system, only 2.1 lg (96.8%-99.9%) removal rate was observed in the conventional activated sludge system with the influent virus concentration fluctuating from 1830 to 57000 PFU/mL.

The applications of the Warburg respirometer and batchreactor of completely mixed activated sludge process for studying the treatability of carbon black wastewater of a synthetic ammonia plant are described in this paper. The carbon black wastewater contains mainly formates. The effects of toxic materials (nickel, vanadium and ammonium nitrogen) on the treatment are discussed. Besides, design parameters for the carbon black wastewater treatment are given based on the continuous-flow experimental results.
