The trace of visible scattering in air induced by a CW1.06m laser beam has been observed inside the cavity of a Nd: YAG laser. The scattering light has a continuous distribution covering the visible spectral range, and the threshold of laser beam power density required for this effect was found. When the period of laser action was reduced to the order of millisecond by using a mechanical rotating switch within the cavity, this effect could still be observed.

This means, tremendous amount of sodium dimers are excited from ground state x1?+g to a higher state C1?u by photons of 351.0 nm. C1?u is depleted as a result of stimulated emission to 2'?+g state. By curve crossing via C1?g sodium dimers go to a3?u. b3?+g is populated by curve crossing with a?IIu. Continuous fluorescence spectrum of bound-free emission of sodium dimer b3?+g - x3?+u in 830.0nm~900.0nm region was observed for the first time.

High resolution polarized absorption spectra in visible and ultra-violet spectral region have been examined sysmatically. We have mainly determined the stark sublevels and their irreducible representations for the higher energy levels. We find that the groups of their absorption lines are corresponding to those of Br3+ in CaWO4 and in LaF3, but there exist sysmatically shifts between the centers of gravity of energy levels in these three different crystals.

本文系统地研究了LiYF_4晶体中Er~(3+)在可见光谱及紫外光谱区的吸收光谱及其偏振。主要定出了其较高能级的斯塔克子能阶的波数值以及其不可约表示。发现其线群与LaF_3及CaWO_4中Er~(3+)的吸收光谱线群大致是一一对应的,但三种晶体中能级重心有系统的移位。
