The coordination behaviors of 5-(4-sulfophenylazo) salicylic acid (NaH_3L)with La(III), Nd(III) and Nd(III)-EDTA have been studied potentiometrically inaqueous solution at 25℃ in the presence of 0.1 mol·L~(-1) sodium nitrate. The cumula-tive formation constants have been calculated on IBM-PC with SCOGS program.The mechanisms of the complexes formation have been discussed.

The colour reactions of gold (Ⅲ) with 5-(4-sulfonatephenylazo) -8-aminoquinoline (SPQ) and 5-(4-arseniphenylazo)-8-aminoquinoline (APAQ) were studied. In the basic medium and presence of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide, gold(Ⅲ)reacts with SPQ forming a blue complex, in which molar absorptivity is 1.48×105 L.mol-1.cm-1at 605nm, and reacts with APAQ forming a violet-blue complex,in which molar absorptivity is 9.23×104L.mol-1.m-1 at 594 nm. The addition equilibrium of mixed ligand complexes Nd (Ⅲ)-NTA-HQAB, Nd (Ⅲ)-NTA-HPAB, Nd(Ⅲ)-EDTA-Solo 2G (HQAB: 8-hydroxy-5-(p-sulfo-phenylazo) quinoline, HPAB: acid mordant yellow 8, Solo 2G: 5-(4'-sulfophenylazo)salicylic acid)have been studied spectrophotometrically. Their equilibrium constants have been obtained.
