The characters of high strain region in nozzle of pressure vessel are analyzed and a new kind of specimen - high strain gradient special-shape test plate (STP) is used to imitate high strain fatigue in nozzle in this paper. Fatigue tests on the STP of 16MnR and 15MnVR steels are conducted and these are verified by the fatigue test on φ1000×4500mm full size nozzle-to-cyclinder. △J calculated by the definition of deformation work rate of J-integral is used to describe the fatigue crack propagation rate. The fatigue tests reported here show that the results of STP and vessel nozzle are similar; △J is a valid parameter of the fatigue crack propagation. If the effect of the strain gradient on △J is considered and △J is also modified by the geometry of STP or nozzle and crack closure effect. The test results show agreement with calculated results.

M1 multi-functional test plate for magnetic particle inspection is a new type of test plate with three artificial defects of concentric circles. The test plate is 50μm thick with slots of 7.15 and 30μm in depth respectively. It can simplify test procedure and contribute to the development of magnetic particle inspection in the direction of quantitative measurement. The working principle, structure, features and functions of the test plate are described.
