    Recently increasing attention is paid to the reseach on compac- tion of mudstone. The analyses of the data from sonic log are now one of the most important methods to study the compaction of mudstone and abnormal pressure. In such areas as southern Kongdian, Huanghua Depression, where sonic log is usually started from a deeper depth, and therefore the normally compacted sections are shorter, the data from several wells can be synthesized to determine the normally compacting trend of mudstone. The analyses of the data from sonic log are now one of the most important methods to study the compaction of mudstone and abnormal pressure. In such areas as southern Kongdian, Huanghua Depression, where sonic log is usually started from a deeper depth, and therefore the normally compacted sections are shorter, the data from several wells can be synthesized to determine the normally compacting trend of mudstone. In the second half of this paper the state of mudstone compaction and the distribution and characteristics of abnormal pressure are analysed in comparision with the data of sediment phases and lithology. It is pointed out that the depth is a principal factor in controlling the occurence of abnormal section, which may be obviously limited by the bed(or lithological characteristics). In southern Kongdian, the most important feature of the abnormally compacted sections is that the abnormal pressures in them are not so great and stable, compared with other areas.

    A portable ring heat source probe method based on tran-sient three-dimensional heat transfer from a point heat source is applied tomeasure the in-situ wall-rock thermal conductivity for mine pits.The digi-tal data processing method is used to treat the experimental results.Withthe help of a newly developed acoustically controlled channel selector,ahandy in-situ wall-rock thermal conductivity measuring device with one-button triggering fully automatic performance has thus been successfullyinstalled.The device consists of:(1)probe box with one environment te-mperature measuring probe and three thermal conductivity probes;(2)power box with two wax-sealed stabilized rechargeable batteries of 12 DCV;and(3)instrument box with a programmable calculator,a thermal printer,a five and an half digit multimeter,and a lab-developed programme-controlled channel selector.The one-button triggering fully automatic performance,being the keypoint of the in-situ device,is based on a computer programme-supportedsolid state logical circuit of the control system.Repeated experimemts showthat there exists an empirical log-log linear relationship between the the-rmal conductivity of the being measured sample and the working temper-ature rise at the center of the ring heater.Systematic tests also show th-at the spring pressure exerted on the ring heater by the probe casing andthe stability of the power source have crucial effect on the generalperformances and the accuracy of the device.Finally,the experimentalprecision is ansured through repeated calibrations.The reproducibility ofexperimental results is better than ±5%,while the accuracy of thedevice is 10%.
