This tendency, part of a broader one in mainstream general psychology, shows signs of change as qualitative methods are seen to be an attractive...

Chinese students generally are disposed to construing in concrete terms when first introduced to Kellyan ideas, and also seek to quantify their data a directive which runs counter to the spirit of a constructivist psychology. This tendency, part of a broader one in mainstream general psychology, shows signs of change as qualitative methods are seen to be an attractive alternative. It is argued that more reflection on the metaphysical assumptions of Kelly, and the value of qualitative exploration are likely to win over more students to the applied possibilities of the theory in a wide variety of practical contexts. Translation of terms presents an added problem but this is not insurmountable.
