The subject is dealt with in the following four parts:1. An introduction is made of the two essential types of conical ring for cotton ring spinning, ZM-6 ring and SH ring, the geometrical adaptation of the traveller to the ring and their technological effects. The current maximum linear speed of the traveller is about 45 m/sec.2. The wearing positions of the travellers were located. From a simple analysis of the moments acting on the traveller, the anti-wedging property of traveller is discussed, the results of which show that the traveller on the conical ring has got better antiwedging properties than the ordinary anti-wedge rings.3. Spinning tension for the travellers at spindle speeds between 15000鈥?9000 r.p.m was measured. The results show that the variation of yarn tension for the conical ring and traveller is lower than for ordinary anti-wedge rings. Tension peaks are low, especially towords the end of doffing. As a result, the breakage in ring spinning is reduced.4. Traveller heating and wear are discussed. Because the contact surface between the conical ring and the traveller has been increased greatly, it gives good heat dissipation. The conical ring particularly suitable for spinning synthetics and blends of cotton and synthetics is considered. Working life of the conical ring and traveller for fine yam counts has been found prolonged.Finally, the faults of the conical ring are pointed out in the report.

This paper describes a study on the thermo-tolerance of dryspinning polyimide (PI) fiber. Some of properties are compared with the aromatic polyamide fiber 1414 (which corresponds to Kevlar fiber).
