Based on the quasi-TEM Mode assumption, the characteristic equations of the rectangular optical waveguides were obtained in this paper. These characteristic equations are not only simple and understandable but also quite accurate for weakly guiding optical waveguides. They can be solved by the graphical method, and the results are coincide very well with those obtained by other more accurate methods except for the area close to the cut points.
