It is well known that the Laplace transform can be used to obtain the transfer--function for the linear time-invariant system with single input and single output or to obtain the state transition matrix, the state response vector, and the transfer-function matrix of the whole system for first-order linear time-invariant system with multiple inputs and multiple outputs. But the Laplace transform cannot tackle the field of linear time-variant system. Now we can make progress in the field of linear time-variant system by using the direct method of operational calculus[1] or using it in combination with matrix theory. This method is simple and direct with no need for any transforms. This paper pesents a new method of automatic placement, which has been used in LOD system. The method uses PO cone in the initial placement and uses connectivity relations of lines in the physical placement. It places gates in levels by recognizing feedback lines and packs all inner gates to one macrocell for flip-flops.

The functional and structural information is used to improve the asthetics and readability of diagrams. A grid model is employed in column placement, and a channel model is used for routing. The connections are used to locate a cell in row within a PO cone.
