In this article, a problem is put forward how to carry out English four-band teaching of today at college, According to the present situation of teaching system and the English level of students, special attention should be paid to the following problems, they are grade making, main points in teaching, standard test and teaching management. The paper discusses those problems as well as summarizes some concrete methods and measures in teaching practice.

This paper reports the findings of an emperical study. With English-major students at different levels as subjects, and through factor analysis, the study shows that the structure of English competence is closely related to the level of proficiency. The higher the level of proficiency, the fewer factors that can be extracted. Implications of the findings are also discussed.

本文是一篇关于中国学生英语能力结构研究的实验报告。实验对象为大学一、二、三年级英语专业学生。本实验采用因素分析(factor analysis)手段,重点探讨了不同水平学生英语能力的构成情况以及能力结构与英语水平的关系。实验结果表明,英语能力是一个多元素结构,一般由一个总体因素和一至二个其它因素构成。另外,英语能力是一个不断变化的动态结构,这种变化与英语水平有密切的关系。随着英语水平的提高,构成英语能力的因素呈现出较强的总体化倾向。

The investigator set out to describe the students' self-re-ported language learning behaviours and then to relate those reported behaviours to the students' achieve-ment in language proficiency. Results indicated that students in grade two engaged in more of the assumed"good" self-study and social interaction behaviours, while subjects in grade one did a better job...

本文是一篇有关中国学生英语学习行为与效果的调查报告。结果表明,二年级学生的学习行为比一年级好,但其课堂学习行为不如一年级;与英语水平关系最大的是课堂行为,课外自学行为和交际行为则与词汇量大小有一定关系,同听力的关系三种行为都不明显。对学习行为与效果的调查研究在国内尚不多见,本次调查可为以后研究奠定一定基础。
