Fuzzy relationship between intensity and ace. is established. Higher as well as lower possibilities of the estimations of ace. suggested in<1980 Seismic Intensity Scale of China>are figured out.Sensefulness of this article is that the so-called bu lding damage index is really related with physical quantity of ground motion in some fashio'n, so its mathematical meaning is enhanced in somewhat and marks a new way in treating with seismological as well as earthquake engineering problems.

By means of direct method in pattern recognition and a-cut notions, the relationships between intensities and damage indices are figured out....

In this paper, the earthquake intensity is firstly treated as a fuzzy subset of an universe of discourse using building damage indices due to earthquake as its base variable, and then various membership functions corresponding to the fuzzy subsets for intensities from Ⅵ° to Ⅹ° are determined based on data of field investigations of a number of past earthquakes in China. By means of direct method in pattern recognition and a-cut notions, the relationships between intensities and damage indices are figured out. For intensities from Ⅷ° to Ⅹ°, these relationships are completely coincided with those suggested in 《 1980 Seismic Intensity Scale of China》, but there are some differences in intensities Ⅵ° and Ⅶ°. The results obtained here is useful in evaluating earthquake intensity in practice.

本文把地震烈度作为震害(以震害指数为基础变量)论域中的模糊子集,确定了烈度模糊集Ⅵ一Ⅹ的隶属函数;用模式识别的直接方法和α-截集的概念得到了烈度和震害指数的两种对应关系,在Ⅷ、Ⅸ、Ⅹ度,这些关系和《中国地震烈度表(1980)》完全一致,而在Ⅵ和Ⅶ度则有所不同。这些结果可直接应用于烈度评定工作中。
