This paper reviews the origin of self-excited whirl of the rotor in gas bearings and introduces a new type of externally pressurized gas bearing in which the supporting gas is tangentially fed to the bearing clearance through paraxial inlet slots against the direction of journal rotation. In this paper the advantages of this type of gas bearing have been discussed and the compressibility of the gas has been taken into consideration in the derivation of the equation for the calculation of the bearing. This paper describes the preliminary analyses and experimental results of the tangential-hole gas supply bearings (abbrev. This paper describes the preliminary analyses and experimental results of the tangential-hole gas supply bearings (abbrev. TSB) for the medium-pressure cryogenic expansion turbine installed in a 150 Nm~3/h oxygen plant.According to the pattern of gas flow into the radial clearance of the TSB, the circumferential flow velocity of gas in the bearing radial clearane was calculated from the bearing gas consumption. The effects of some factors, such as the bearing radial clearance, the direction of gas supply, the Pearing supply pressure etc., on the instability onset speed (the onset speed of self-excited whirl) have been studied.Through the experimental study, the optimum radial clearance of the TSB has been obtained, and it is higher than that of the radial-hole gas supply bearings (abbrev. RSB) of the model turbine developed. While using the TSB, it is necessary to take notice of that the direction of gas supply must be opposed tp the rotating direction of the rotor. Otherwise, the operating stability of the bearing will be badly decreased. Change a RSB to a TSB is a simple and easy measure of increasing the instability onset speed in the cryogenic expansion turbine of small size and high speed, and its extended application is convenient.

本文叙述了150Nm~3/h制氧机中压低温透平膨胀机的切向小孔供气轴承的初步分析及试验结果.根据切向供气轴承径向间隙中的气体流动模型,以轴承耗气量计算了轴承径向间隙中的气体周向流动速度.试验研究了径向间隙、供气方向、供气压力等因素对失稳转迷(自激涡动起始速度)的影响.得出了切向供气轴承的最佳径向间隙,其数值要大于研制样机径向供气轴承的最佳径向间隙.使用切向供气轴承时,需注意供气方向必须与转子旋转方向相反,否则,轴承运转稳定性将显着降低.在小型高速低温透平膨胀机中,将径向供气轴承改为切向供气轴承是提高失稳转速简易可行的措施.
