Constant synchronously rotating system components dc and qc and method of small oscillational equations are used in the analysis; steady state oscillational principles, spectrum frequency analysis of discriminating occurrence of self-excitation are discussed. Correlation between these methods are also described. Results obtained from this theoretical analytic method are compared with those obtained from experimental tests, the agreement between them is very close. It is found that the basic nature of self-excitation phenomenon of asynchronous machine, as shown from the results of this investigation, is a kind of resonance among the electro-mechanical parameters of the machine. Traditional methods of analysis, being used so far by many writers, regarding the speed of the machine as a constant factor, cannot reveal the effect of rotational inertia of the machine upon the self-excitation process.
