This paper presents the properties and performance of type CT--878 ceta-ne number (CN) improver synergically developed by Shengli Refinery and Xi-an Institute of Modern Chemistry. For diesel fuels from Shengli crude, the CNcan be increased by 4--6 units with the addition of 0. 2 wt% CT--878 whilethe carbon residue and gum still meet the requirement of specification GB252, The performance of CT--878 varies with the composition of diesel fueland the increase in CN can be predicted with an empirical formula.

A cetane number (CN) improver, iso-octyl nitrate, was prepared and its susceptibility to diesel fuel as well as the storage stability of doped diesel fuel were investigated. Results of rig test, road test and application test indicate that this CN improver has good susceptibility to diesel fuels. With a dosage of 0.05~0.3% (wt) the CN improver of diesel fuel can be enhanced by 1~9 units, equivalent to the similar foreign products.
