By means of stepwise filtration,centrifugation and vacuum drying technique,water soluble substance was extracted from Chinese compound medicine-Xiao Chai-hu-tang.The water sol- uble substance enhanced the IL-2.These effects were concentration gradient dependent.The data suggest that Xiao Chai-hu-tang plays an important role in immune response and immunomodulation, which might be an important part of the treatment mechanism of Xiao Chai-hu-tang to autoimmune diseases.
