The section located at Guantangyuan of Wuning County, Jiangxi Province is a Ordovician-Silurian boundary one worthy of special remark. The Ordovician-Silurian sequence there is contineous, wcll-exposed,rich in fossils, and available for transpotation. The upper part of Upper Ordovician comprises Wufeng Formation,Xinkailing Formation and the base of Lishuwo Formation in this area. The wufeng Formation can be divided into three graptolite zones from the base upwards: (1). The Dicellograptus szcchuanensis zone (W2); (2). The Tanyyagraptus typicus zone (W3); and (3) The Diceratograptus mirus zone(W4). The Xinkailing Formation, representing a mixed biologic facies, can be divided into two parts on the basis of fossil assemblages. The lower part of the Formation is rich in graptolites. Besides graptolites, brachiopods like Oxoplecia and gastropods like Ophiletina are also present in this part. Graptolites are less abundant in the upper part of the formation, and most of them collected, such as Paraorthograptus angustus and P. aequalis, are identical with those found in the lower part. Therefore, the lower and the upper part of the Xinkailing Formation can be treated as the same graptolite assemblage, corresponding to the fifth graptolite zone of the wufeng Stage (W5). It is notable that the upper part of the formation contains abundant shell facies fossils, such as trilobites like Dalmanitina wuningensis, Leonaspis and Pla tycoryphe, and brachiopods like Paromalomena etc. often occurring in the Hirnantia fauna. Besides these fossils, there are bivalves, gastropods, and ostracods in this part. It is thought that the upper part of the formation corresponds to the "Dalmanitina bed" The lower part of the graptolite-facies Lishuwo Formation can be divied into three graptolite zones from the base upwards: (1). The Diplograptus bohemicus zone (W6); (2). The Glyptograptus persculptus-sinuatus transient zone (L1); and(3)The Akidoycaptus ascensus zone (L2). The first graptolite zone belongs to the wufeng Stage of Upper Ordovician, while the second and third ones to the Longmaqian Stage of Lower Silurian. According to our data, it is appropriable to adopt the boundary between wufeng Stage and Longmaqian Stage as the Ordovician-Silurian boundary. The wufeng Stage and the Longmaqian Stage of China are equivalent to the Ashgillian and the lower part of the Llandoverian of the United Kingdom respectively. The Chinese Ordovician-Silurian boundary, however, is in harmony with that in Wales, where the boundary has been set just between the Ashgillian and the Llandoverian. This boundary also corresponds to the definition of the Ordovician given by Lapworth(1879). As a matter of fact, this boundary has been accepted by most geologists in the world. It is known that there are many complete Ordovician-Silurian boundary profiles in China,from which the boundary stratotype section may be chosen. In our study area, the Ordovician Silurian boundary is clearly set between layers 17 and 18 The graptolite faunas below and above the boundary there not only have certain connection, but show considerable distinctions. Therefore the Guantangyuan section of Wuning County, jiangxi province is among the best boundary stratotype ones for choosing.

The Ordovician—Silurian boundary section at Sanlangpu of Xixiang county is the best one of Hanzhong area in southern Shaanxi. The section is contineous, well—exposed, rich in fossils, complete in graptolitic sequence. We measured two Formations: Wufeng Formation and Lungmachi Formation.Four graptolite zones can be erected in Wufeng Formation and four graptolite zones in Lungmachi Formation. The Ordovician—Silurian boundary section at Sanlangpu of Xixiang county is the best one of Hanzhong area in southern Shaanxi. The section is contineous, well—exposed, rich in fossils, complete in graptolitic sequence. We measured two Formations: Wufeng Formation and Lungmachi Formation.Four graptolite zones can be erected in Wufeng Formation and four graptolite zones in Lungmachi Formation. The Ordovician—Silurian boundary is interleaved between graptolitic facies in our section. The Hirnantia—Dalmanitina bed at the top of the Wufeng Formation here consists of grey—white sandstone, yielding rich branchiopods and trilobites in it. But it is different in age from those of Yichang and other places. The authors believe that it can correspond to upper part of Paraorthograptus uniformis zone (W5) and lower part of Diplograptus bohemicus zone (W6). The appearance of Akidograptus ascensus from the upper part of Glyptograptus persculptus zone and the statistics of species number indicate that G. persculptus zone (L1) has a closer relation with P, acuminatus zone (L2) than with D. bohemicus zone (W6). It is worthy of note that some graptolite with bifurcated virgella appeared from G. persculptus zone in this section and Guantangyuan setion of the Wuning area in Jiangxi (Yu et al. 1984), which have not been found from D. bohemicus zone.and lower horizon. Because the phenomenon of bifurcated virgella in Diplograptidae is common in the lower Silurian, it can help geologists to delimit the Ordovician-Silurian boundary in the field work. According to our data the Ordovian-Silurian boundary is set between G, persculptus zone (L1) and D. bohemicus zone (W6) at Sanlangpu section.

本文研究的陕西省西乡县三郎铺奥陶——志留系界线剖面地层连续、出露良好、化石丰富,是陕西汉中地区最好的界线剖面。作者详细研完了界线附近的笔石,将五峰组和龙马溪组划分为八个笔石带,这是首次在汉中地区建立较完善的界线附近笔石带。通过研究发现本区原划归下志留统的龙马溪组底部,产有丰富的上奥陶统顶部Diplograptus bohemicus 带的笔石。本区龙马溪组是一个跨奥陶系与志留系的岩石地层单位。“HirnantiaDalmanitina层”位于Diplograptus bohemicus 带之下,应划归奥陶系,相当于五峰阶第五笔石带(W5)上部至第六笔石带(W6)下部。通过本剖面笔石动物群分析、属种统计、笔石胎管剌发育特征等研究,再次论证将奥陶系与志留系界线置于GlyptograptusPersculptus带之底是适宜的。
