A relational expression between gray level Z and fringe order N in dark-field, can be rewritten asN =(1/π)arcsin(AZ~(1/((2r)))where A, r are constants.This mothed is particularly effective at low levels of briefringence where the relative retardation is less than one half wavelength. In this paper, two glass models were used to study an elastic stress field with a satisfactory resolution. The results are with higher accuracy for stress analysis of the difference in the principal stresses (σ_1-σ_2).This new development is opening up many new areas to effective automated full-field experimental stress analysis.
