This paper gives the evaluation of a saving on energy and raising the efficiency of energy utilization with heat pump. Firstly, it discusses the actual COP of compressive and absorptive heat pump system, describes the potentiality of energy saving of the heat pump for many kinds of energy sources, such as electric energy, fossil fuel, hydro-power, waste heat, geothermal and solar energy.The paper points out the favourable conditions of natural and climate resources to use heat pump in China, confirmed by some practical results. The significance of developing heat pump and the relation between the energy costs and energy policy are discussed also. In conclusion, six principled points of views on using heat pump in China are put forward.
