The capacity of tolyl arsonic acids for collecting cassiterite has been investigated. It is shown that mixed tolyl arsonic acid was much superior to either para- or ortho-isomer alone for cassiterite flotation. Mixing ratios between paraand ortho-tolyl arsonic acids ranging from 50:50 to 30:70 were effective with a peak value at 45:55 in which a maximum collecting capacity was obtained. In the plantscale flotation of cassiterite slimes assaying from 0.6 to 0.7 percent Sn, tin concentrates with the grade of about 25.65% were obtained, the total recovery being about 58.64%. Cassiterite flotation using mixed tolyl arsonic acid as collectors and sodium carbonyl methyl cellulose as despressing agents for calcite have already been put into industrial practice.

Ceramic burners have been installed in 3 M-P external combustion chamber stoves for B.F. № 6 in the Ironmaking works in Anshan Iron and Steel Company. After being brought into operation, the stoves were subjected to experimental runs. Temperatures at different heights and various locations in the combustion and regeneration chambers were measured. Sample of waste gas were taken from the combustion chamber for analysis. Based on the data thus obtained, functions of the ceramic burners were compared with that of the metallic ones. It is found that the burning ability of the former is about 70% higher than that of the latter, the range of control is wider, and the stove top temperature is about 70℃ higher. Thus, it may be concluded that higher temperature, longer life of usage, and safer operration will be attained by the adoption of ceramic burners.

Mechanism of consolidation of these pellets is studied. Their metallurgical properties appear superior to ordinary oxidized pellets. Direct reduction tests of cold consolidated pellets in a semi-industrial rotary kiln (inner diameter 1.1×1.4m) gave a metallization rate of about 95%, with less than 6% powder and at the same time without reoxidization and ring formation. A new scheme of cold consolidation of iron-ore pellets and their direct reduction in the rotary kiln in commercial scale is proposed.
