Owing to shortage of water,draught, poor soil texture and extensive cultivation, the yields in the hilly terrace of Linfeng Area, Shangxi Province have long been neither high nor stable. Hilly terrace covers 40% of the total cultivated lands. Therefore, farm irrigation is urgently required to improve local conditions of agricultural production. According to several years' experiments, the paper makes a comprehensive study on the necessity and feasibility of the development of irrigation in the hilly dryland, on the selection of irrigation technclogies and en cconcmic benefits, the paper also recommends that irrigation primarily aims at pipe supply of water and reservier action. Full use of small local water resources, the application of water-saving irrigation techniques and of limited irrigation are important measures that call for great attention as well.

1982—1984年麦仁店水稻灌溉试验站进行了深水、浅水、湿润、控制湿润四种水稻灌溉技术处理的单因子对比试验证明:水稻的耗水量和稻作生态、产量都随着灌溉技术的不同而具有明显的差异,1985年在微山县鲁桥镇近万亩范围内推广了水稻控制湿润灌溉技术,表明这种新的灌溉技术具有节水、节能、耐肥、抗倒、优质、高产的优点,效益显著,深受群众欢迎. 控制湿润灌溉为水稻从返青期以后,田面不建立水层而按土壤含水量控制,改善了土壤通气性能,使之处于氧化环境,土壤中不易产生有害的物质,为防止水田向老朽化水稻土壤的退化提供了可能. 这种灌溉技术下的水稻根深,根系发达,黄白根多,株矮,杆茎坚韧,收获期叶面积指数高,穗长,粒多,结实率高,千粒重大,具有高产的优势,灌溉水的生产效率高,为合理利用水资源提供了研究方向.
